| Description | HANNIBAL, MO - The Browns were very prominent members of the African American community. Phillip Anderson Brown was owner and operator of Brown and Son Moving and Storage Company for more than 50 years. He was a trustee, usher and treasurer for the Eighth and Center Street Baptist Church. He was active in R.S.V.P., the Affirmative Action Committee and the Hannibal Chapter of the NAACP in addition to many other organizations. Mr. Brown was a philanthropist and was known to give many young members of the African American community a start toward becoming upstanding members of the community themselves. Mrs. John Elsie Brown was both a homemaker and a businesswoman. In addition, she was dedicated in her service to the Eighth and Center Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the auxiliary, the choir and also served as a youth counselor. |
