TITLE Ilasco Baseball Team
DATE OF ORIGINAL 1916
DATE OF DIGITAL 2006-2
DESCRIPTION ILASCO, MO - Despite the long hours at the Atlas Portland Cement Plant, the workers still participated in sports during their free time.  Baseball was especially popular, so much so, that the plant built a baseball diamond and bleacher seating for the town next to Marble Creek (near the present day "Concrete Bridge").  What started as a pastime soon turned into a rivalry between the Ilasco team and other teams in the area.  Different departments within the plant began forming their own teams.  Soon local businesses began sponsoring the local teams.  The members of the Ilasco team pictured are identified, from left to right, as follows: row 1 - Francis ("Tattle") Ragland (shortstop), Daniel Mack (catcher), John McKinney (pitcher), George (Bob) Ragland (1st base), and Willis Ellsworth (3rd base) ; row 2 - Doc Woods (left field), Harry Ellsworth (center field), Bob Breeding (manager), Lloyd ("Rags") Ragland (mascot), Earl Northcutt (right field) and Lee Lobsinger (2nd base).
