DESCRIPTION |
THE PLANT - This is half of a picture of
one of the limestone quarries of the Atlas Portland Cement Plant in its
early years. Removing this limestone required not only
sledgehammers, pickaxes, etc. but it often included hefting large slabs
into the horse drawn wagons pictured here. Most of this labor was
performed by immigrant laborers from Central and Southern Europe now
living in the company town of Ilasco. None of the employees pictured
are identified. |

lower corner torn and folded back, small gash on lower margin plus some
cracking. The picture is glued to a woven material background that
extends beyond the left side. The material contains several puncture
