DESCRIPTION |
ILASCO, MO - These are the male members -
plus the daughter of one of the men (row 2, 3rd from right) - of the
Ilasco branch of the National Slovak Society. This fraternal organization
would extend helping hands to their fellow Slovaks and the community of
Ilasco when the need arose. Only one of the members is identified -
John Viglasky (gentleman to the left of the little girl). Although
not observable from the picture, an interesting point is the name of the
photographer. He was James Curzan
of Ilasco, Mo. Although little is known of Mr. Curzan, he was the only
professional photographer in the community of Ilasco. Why more of
the pictures taken by the immigrants in this community were not done by
him is a question that may never be answered. |
