| DESCRIPTION | ILASCO, MO - This church existed for sixty years, from its inception in the home of Stephen Stimel to its final two services on April 25, 1971. During that time it was the heart of the Slovak Lutheran society. During its tenure, it had only three full time pastors, Rev. Juraj Majoros, Rev. Juraj Dolak and Rev. Jan Kovac. The church was eventually torn down ; the church pews were sold to a Hannibal church ; the altar was given to the Luther Manor Nursing Home ; and, the land was purchased by the Cement Plant. All was not lost, however; the church bell was saved by the Mary Stimel family and has been returned to the site of the lost town of Ilasco over which it once rang. |
