DESCRIPTION |
ILASCO, MO - The Atlas Portland Cement
Company paid for its employees to have an annual picnic. These
picnics were always on a payday Friday. This picnic of both
management and labor, none of whom are identified, in the LeBaume Valley
shows a happy group (why not? - the food and beer were plentiful ;
horseshoes were flying ; card games like pinochle and pitch were ongoing ;
games of chance like poker and craps were being played, too.)
Unfortunately, war will break out in five months and many of these men
will leave the cement plant to serve in the Armed Forces. |
