| DESCRIPTION | ILASCO, MO - This is the Marble Creek School, an elementary school , that existed from 1904 to 1944. The school was located on the south edge of Ilasco on the main county road and consisted of two large rooms separated by a long hallway/cloakroom. Physically it was a very modern school with central heating (very unusual at the time), a coal fired furnace, and playground equipment as well as the more common pump for water and outhouses. With the influx of immigrant workers increasing the school age population, Marble Creek School soon became overcrowded. This overcrowding was not alleviated until the Ilasco Grade School was built in 1914. |
