| DESCRIPTION | STILLWELL ADDITION (a.k.a. Monkey Run, a suburb of Ilasco) - The first school in Monkey Run was held in the basement of St. Peters Byzantine Catholic Church and operated from 1919 to 1925. In 1925 the church was disbanded and a new location for the school was needed. In 1926 The Stillwell Addition Grade School building was constructed as a one room building made of concrete stucco. In addition to the main building, there were two concrete stucco outhouses, one of which is visible in the picture. Water for the school was provided by a deep well with a hand pump which was dug specifically for the school . The school had one teacher who taught grades 1 through 5. In 1935, the school was closed. The people in the picture are unidentified. |
