Description HANNIBAL, MO - Frank Caldwell, a long-time CB & Q engineer, stands in front of the Mark Twain Zephyr. On the far left of the engine is the number "9903" which designates that this is the Mark Twain Zephyr. According to the "1944 Time Recording Book of the CB & Q Railroad", the rate of pay for the Zephyr's engineer is 7.93 (the fireman, 6.23) per mile traveled. This rate is based on the weight on the drivers (drive wheels).
